Grand Toastmasters Club was founded in July 1975. The founder was an American military officer named Mr. John Heard. At that time, the club's name was “Devil Dog Toastmasters Club”. In the beginning, most of members were American servicemen. “Devil Dog” was chosen as the club name since it was actually a nickname of the US Marine Corps.
The US military personnel withdrew from Taiwan in 1979. Members began re- thinking the club’s name. In Oct, 1982, it was changed to be “Grand Toastmasters Club” and registered with Toastmasters International with a number 1447 (District 67). There are around 50 members in our club now. Many of them are senior members who also served as Club Presidents before.
We meet twice a month (on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday) at 8F No245, Sec3 Roosevelt Rd., Taipei (台北市羅斯福路三段245號八樓) Catholic Sanipax Socio-Medical service & Education Foundation (康泰醫療基金會), from 7:00 to 9:00 in the evening. Guests are welcome to visit our meetings, and eventually join the club as members.
